Join the Friends of the Stowe Free Library on Thursday, March 8, 2018, at 7pm in welcoming Ed McGuire, a past-president of the VT Genealogy Library & the VT French-Canadian Genealogical Society. This hour-long talk will cover where to find genealogy records, both in Vermont and in the USA/Canada. This includes the major repositories like the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Allen County Public Library, New England Historic Genealogical Society in Boston and Vermont repositories, including our own Vermont Genealogy Library. The talk will also touch on the major changes to the genealogy field that have occurred in the past decade such as free online education & blogs, Facebook, software tools and DNA testing. Meet the Author: Kaela Coble

06:00 pm to 07:00 pm

ABOUT THE BOOK:
Sometimes the secrets we keep are more dangerous than the ones we reveal…

When Ruby St. James returns to her hometown, it's under the worst circumstances. Her old classmate Danny is dead, and at his funeral, she is confronted with the friends she left behind and the secret that tore them apart ten years ago. Now, Ruby isn't sure how to bridge the space her lies have created. And what's worse, she isn't the only one who's been lying. In a final act of revenge, Danny has left each of his friends an envelope containing their darkest secret, along with instructions to reveal them to one another or risk them coming out in a trap of Danny's own creation. Soon enough, past mistakes resurface and the lines of friendship are tested.

Fraught with emotion, suspense, and hope, Friends and Other Liars is the story of five friends coming to terms with what it means to betray the ones who love you best.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Kaela Coble lives in Burlington, Vermont, and is a member of the League of Vermont Writers. This is her first novel.
Join us in welcoming Kaela Coble, author of the recently released novel Friends and Other Liars.

'Salamander Sky' Katy Farber Reading + Workshop

10:30 am to 12:00 pm

Join us in welcoming local author + educator Katy Farber and her new book Salamander Sky. We look forward to having Katy at Bridgeside Books again!

The Salamander Sky workshop is geared toward preschool through elementary school aged students, and models first hand exploration and investigation in nature. The workshop will target many of the Next Generation Science Standards for elementary school students, including life cycles, wetland habitats, diversity, adaptations and human impact.

ABOUT THE BOOK:
Every spring in the eastern region of the United States, warmer nights with steady rain bring the migration of thousands of spotted salamanders to ponds and pools, often across busy roads. These crossings are magical, and secretive—most people don’t even know they happen.

Salamander Sky features a mother and daughter who go out on a rainy night to help the salamanders cross the road safely. This picture book introduces readers to the elusive spotted salamander and the perilous nighttime journey they take each spring. Amphibians worldwide desperately need protection. Salamander Sky is a valuable tool for getting children engaged in conservation.

"Salamander Sky has within its pages the power to ignite curiosity in the unexplored backyard while at the same time respecting and not disrupting nature's hand in the survival of a species. And what could be better than that?"
